Final Recommendations For Dealing With Evil, Pain And Suffering

It is only with the passage of time that the effects of evil, pain and suffering can become at least somewhat muted.  However, believers in God have another source of comfort: the love of God.

Sometimes, when the pain is extreme, we question God and doubt His love for us.  We ask many questions and pray for answers but, oftentimes, we get no response.  How are we to deal with this?  Where is God when we need Him most?

Suggestions

  1. Listen to the wisdom from the biblical book of Job: We can’t possibly hope to understand why God allows evil, pain and suffering in the world.  Our very limited perspective of time and space make it impossible to see how these things fit into His overall plan for the universe.  We must have faith and take comfort that God is acting according to His plan for the universe and that plan will end up good one way or another.
  2. Recognize the Hand of God in action when we see it: Sometimes, with the passage of time, we are able to see the good coming from God’s Plan even when it comes as a result of evil, pain and suffering.  Pray to God for this blessing and respond if He asks you to take action.
  3. Visualize God’s Plan for you:  Use the conceptual model presented here to gain a new perspective on your life, seeing it as God might see it.  Find comfort knowing that He sees you, cares about you, knows that you’re in pain and He has a plan for you.  Create new art based on this model if the spirit moves you.
  4. Pray for patience, strength, and comfort:  Pray to God for wisdom and insight, as well.  Ask for help and guidance on how to deal with the situation.  And thank God for all the blessings he’s provided you.

Remember, God has a plan for you.  You may not see it all the time but take comfort knowing that He sees you, loves you, knows that you’re in pain and has a plan for good such that your struggles will not be in vain.
